Cannot Find Time to Write? Here are 5 ways you can Write when Busy.
Three for Sunday Newsletter #10
The Russians lost an SU-27 Flanker the other day, shot down by a “friendly” surface to air missile, you ever wonder why they call it “friendly” fire?
Back when I worked as a corporate IT project manager, I found little time to write, but I did find creative ways in which I could write and so can you.
While listening to Rammstein’s song “Spring” I got to wondering why people are fascinated with other people’s misery, I’ve been curious, and I bet you have too.
All this and a famous quote in this weeks “Three for Sunday” newsletter.
Enjoy!
#1 (Ukraine War) – Russian SU-27 Fighter Found out Friendly Fire Isn’t so Friendly.
For those of you who read military history, you have no doubt heard the term “friendly fire”.
“Friendly fire” is not very friendly, and it happens when friendly troops are fired on or attacked by other friendly troops.
“Friendly fire” is quite common and usually happens during high intensity fights where a misunderstanding or misidentification has occurred resulting in accidental damage or casualties to friendly forces, also called “fog of war”.
Russia experienced this last week when one of their SU-27 Flanker was shot down by a “friendly” surface to air missile (SAM) over the entrance to the port of Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula.
The pilot from what I understand was able to eject from the burning plane.
There are videos on YouTube showing the SU-27 coming down in a flat spin and on fire which then crashes just a few feet offshore from Sevastopol.
During the war, it is believed a sizable portion of Russia’s air losses have been caused by “friendly fire” with the last known one being an IL-22 damaged a few weeks ago over the Sea of Azov, which I talked about here.
No one really knows when the term “friendly fire” first came into use, but it has been around since armies were using bows and arrows in combat.
“Friendly fire” is a fact of war and will continue to occur for centuries to come.
#2 (Writing) – Cannot Find Time to Write? Here are 5 ways you can Write when Busy.
It is the twenty-first century, and most people are busy, it is what it is, but even if you are busy, you can still find time and creative ways to write.
A few years ago, while working as an IT project manager\technical writer for a fortune 200 company in Virginia, I learned to find time and ways to write. If a newb writer like me could do it, so can you, here’s how:
Email – That’s right you can practice your writing while sending emails, whether at work or messing around on your home computer. I got creative while sending emails at work and was complimented by teammates and customers in the process, not bad.
Social media – Social media websites like X\Twitter, Facebook or Instagram are perfect for writing. Instead of sending out tweets rapid fire, spend a few extra seconds or minutes and get creative. If you cannot take your time and get it right tweeting, how are you going to get it right on your next article or book?
Letter Writing – This is a bit old school for you young-Uns but writing letters can be a great way to practice your writing. Take your time while writing and you will learn something, Similar to emails.
Note Taking – While working in my cubicle I liked to jot down work notes in a small notebook. I would use it for creating sentences or moving words around, came in handy for me. You might want to think about carrying around a small notebook with you while out and about during your day.
Word Documents – In my previous job I wrote A LOT of documentation for new equipment going out to stores. I wrote training and equipment specs for IT and Point of Sale (POS) equipment. The more I wrote the better I got, and you can too.
Writers: learning to multi-task is a must as is managing your time, learning this will help you in the long run.
#3 (Music) – Rammstein – Spring (Jump)
I was listening to one of my favorite metal bands the other day when I came across a song that made me think about weird sh^^ people like to do.
I was listening too Rammstein’s song “Spring”, and it got me thinking about why people are so fascinated with other people’s misery and bad luck.
“Spring” is a heavy metal song that touches on people screaming for a person to spring (jump) after noticing a man standing on a high bridge looking like he is about to commit suicide.
Except the man was not there to commit suicide but to get a good view of the city below.
The crowd becomes angry when they realize he wasn’t going to jump and began screaming for him to jump until eventually one of them (Til Lindemann) kicks him off the bridge to appease the mob.
Powerful song but one of the few songs Rammstein has never played live due to the dark subject.
Have you ever noticed people rubbernecking on the interstate while driving past an accident on a highway? Why some people enjoy watching a race car cartwheeling down the back stretch at an auto race?
Deep down people are curious about other people’s misery and pain, especially death, which we will all face one day.
You should give the song a listen:
